Well into the first week of September, sadly we’ve already kissed summer goodbye and marked it officially as closed—especially with the arrival of fall-like temperatures!
September does often bring us summer-like days, sunshine and warmth but mentally we tend to switch our gears to getting focused, renewing our goals and picking up the pace as the cooler weather approaches. For me personally, around this time I reach for the ‘reset button’ to attune my thoughts towards the start of a new season and the promises the last quarter of the year can bring forth. I spend this time reflecting, maybe looking back to my January goals and getting life back on track. Where yearly goals are concerned, September onwards is the home stretch! If not now, when?
With kids back in school and daily routines normalized, this is a good time to renew health and fitness goals too. Around 2004 I attained my fitness instructor’s certification to teach group fitness. In our training sessions, it was often said that the summer months was a time when people would experience weight gain and decrease activity as everyone is on “holidays”—even from the gym! I was shocked.
One of my fall goals is to add greens into everything I’m cooking. I’m good with eating raw salads and usually have a side serving of greens with every meal, but adding even more to the diet can only prove to be beneficial.
This summer I came across a great product called Cookin’ Greens’—a line of dark leafy greens that are picked fresh from the farm, double-washed and flash frozen all within six hours! Having a few bags of Cookin’ Greens stashed away in your freezer is handy for adding to your Indian curries and putting it in almost any recipe when you need a handful of greens to boost up the nutrition to any dish!

Cookin' Greens is freshly picked from the farm and flash frozen within 6 hours! Handy to keep these on hand so you never run out of greens for your everyday recipes!
It’s a known fact that eating more greens can boost energy levels and make you feel more ALIVE. So here are my top five reasons to add dark leafy greens to the diet and to choose Cookin’ Greens:
A – alkalinity: They are highly alkaline on the pH scale and help balance acidity in the body which is known to induce illness, fatigue and promote the build up of toxins. Eating alkaline foods balances acidity.
L – lustrous: Rich in Vitamins A, B complex, C and E – vitamins that support supple skin and hair growth – contribute to lustrous hair and a beautiful complexion.
I – intelligence: In Ayurveda, India’s ancient healthcare system, we call raw fresh foods “intelligent” also known as chetana in Sanskrit. These are foods that boost immunity and have a higher nutritional content. Dark, leafy greens are the ‘poster boy’ intelligent food!
V – vitamin K: Vitamin K is required for the prevention of osteoporosis, diabetes and is a key anti-inflammatory. Just one cup of dark leafy greens gives you nine times your daily requirement!
E – energy: Vitality and a huge energy booster, it’s no wonder why Iron Man vegan champion Brendan Brazier has the stamina, endurance and energy to be a world-class athlete!
So with my vow to add more greens to ALL my recipes, I’m sharing a recipe for Curried Cheddar Biscuits with Mixed Greens. Perfect for dipping into fall-inspired soups, you’ll find your picky little eaters won’t even notice the greens and the medicinal spices in this recipe.

I stumbled across your blog, and it is just lovely. I am a big greens fan, and at home in Mumbai I buy green spinach or palak every 3 days. We usually have it as salad. I always try to incorporate some form of green into my diet everyday!
Thank you for stopping by! I too love greens, spinach especially raw as a salad without any dressings.
