
Basmati rice winnowing in Gujarat, India. This is one step of rice processing, that separates the rice grain from its dry outer layer known as chaff. The man in the red shirt is blowing air, so the heavier rice falls to the ground and the chaff (which is light) flies away to separate the rice.

This reminds me of when I was a child, watching my grandfather do the same with beans. I wish I could go back in time and learn more of these beautiful traditional ways. This is one of those things that transcends cultures, (my grandfather was italian.)
