It’s been a warm hot summer. I’m not complaining about the heat by any means–that would not be me. This is what I wait for eleven months of year!
This summer I’m cooling down with this awesome Turmeric Tonic. Without sufficient hydration especially in the summer months, we can feel worn out and lethargic.
My turmeric tonic is both cleansing and detoxifying with the added bonus of amazing turmeric! Show your body some love and caring- it’s a great way to start a gorgeous sunny summer day!

Hi again Preena, I saw you on BT online. Too bad they ran out of time, I was waiting to see the chickpea salad!
Just wondering…I have put tumeric in drinks/smoothies before too, but 1/2 tsp seems so little given it’s health benefits. Would a whole tsp be too strong?
Hi Tamara, great you caught the segment! The last step is to layer the chickpeas on top of the salad and then drizzle some yogurt raita dressing on top. Add cilantro for a garnish. You’ll really get those Indian flavours through the salad. I find 1 full teaspoon of turmeric can make drinks bitter to taste, which is why I opt out for using anywhere from 1/8 tsp. – 1/2 tsp. per serving. If you have that a few times a day or eating anything with curry powder in it, then you should be getting the benefits of turmeric. Hope that helps! Best regards, Preena
I am so intrigued by this drink! I would never have thought of putting turmeric in tea. I am excited to give it a try!
Some turmeric in your tea or in a drink is an easy way to get in your daily quota! I put it in my morning tea as well as my smoothies.
Hi Preena–what other herbal tea flavours would you recommend so as not to throw off the taste or be too strong? And, how long would you recommend brewing for (again for strength of taste)? Thanks and hope you are doing well! Cheers, Tamara
Hi Tamara, hope your summer is going well! I’ve made it with a hibiscus tea so it was a nice red colour and also tried it with green tea. I leave the tea bags in the whole time and I didn’t find the strength overpowering. You can leave them until the tea comes to room temperature and pull them out before refrigerating. Hope that helps!
Thanks Preena, I will probably try the Green Tea then. I’m sorry I missed you on BT today! Take care, Tamara
A refreshing and delicious tonic
