Homemade Masala Bread with turmeric

Homemade Masala Bread with turmeric

One of my fondest memories growing up was waking up to the welcomed aromas of homemade baked bread on a long weekend Sunday.

For Mother’s Day this past weekend, I wanted to recreate that exact same bread that my mother used to make for us (Mom deserves some love back!)…but with a masala turmeric twist!

I realized making fresh baked bread doesn’t take a rocket scientist! No bread machine required.

Chocolate Shrikhand with Cranberries – a decadent treat!

Can I just say, sheer decadence can be captured in a cup of Shrikhand, a Gujarati dessert of strained yogurt spiced with cardamom and other Chai spices. A spoonful of this heavenly dessert can always put me in a good mood.

Just give me a reason and I will make this dessert in a moment’s notice!

Presentation is pretty in a glass dessert bowl or cup.

Tandoori Spiced Dark Chocolate Truffles

So the saying goes, “a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Based on this idiom one would think ‘feed them’ and they’ll be happy, right?!

Not always the case! As someone who likes to cook, I was a bit disappointed to know that not every man can be won over by food!

Sesame Seed Sweet with Turmeric ~ Til Ladoo

January 14th, 2013 marks an auspicious day in India called Makar Sankranti, a harvest festival celebrated in northern India to mark the beginning of the growing season and the joyous kite flying festival celebrated in the central India. Years ago at the Harborside Organic Farmers’ Market we used to visit Round Plains Plantation for their organic sweet potatoes. Not only would I pick up a couple of delicious sweet potatoes, I would also sample some of their sweet potato baked goodies at the same time.

This reminded me I could use sweet potatoes in my baking when thinking of trying a new fall sweet recipe this weekend.
