SpicyChaiDrinkingChoc
I hope you don’t get me wrong advocating this Spicy Chai Drinking Chocolate beverage so early into the New Year. The Mayans may not have predicted the end of the world correctly, but they did know a thing or two about chocolate!

The Mayans were the first true chocolate aficionados embracing chocolate for its restorative and mood-enhancing properties.

A little dark chocolate shouldn’t upset anyone’s new year’s health regimens.

This turmeric shake is a powerhouse and perfect as a post workout recovery drink (or should I say meal!).

The last while, evenings and mornings I was hanging out at a really cool place to work out called Sweatshop Union. Initially I must admit, the name itself intimidated me (to death!) and I didn’t think I had the juice in me to keep up with the workouts.

Strawberry Rose Masala Chai - for two!

For many years we’ve taught a festive Valentine’s Indian cooking class menu laced with beautiful, aromatic Indian spices. I always end the cooking class with a sweetheart of treat — Strawberry Rose Masala Chai. It’s velvety smooth, spicy and sweet and a beautiful ending to an Indian meal.

I’m sharing a Happy New Year recipe to keep you feeling better this winter. This really helps me and is a great way to include some daily turmeric. It’s time for turmeric!

I used to have this theory that odd years (as in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007…) were lucky and even years (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010…) were not so good for me.

Water or beer - what do you choose on a hot day?

Yesterday may have possibly been Toronto’s hottest day ever, surpassing 38 degrees Celsius, feeling more like 49 degrees with humidity. Meteorologists said this was due to a “heat dome” in the atmosphere that seals in heat to create oven-like temperatures.

Thank goodness for my Garam Masala Green Goodness Water! This is coming in handy for this very hot and sticky week!

No doubt water is the best thirst quencher, however many would argue nothing beats the heat on the hottest day of the year better than a nice, icy “cold one”. I’m talking about beer of course!

Garam Masala Green Goodness Water - it's a thirst quencher!

I’m loving the summer heat. In India, many cafes and restos are stocked with an array of thirst quenching beverages deliciously infused with lime, ginger, pineapple and mangoes. Some are sweetened and often you can get these drinks unsweetened too.

Ginger Mint Masala Chai

I mentioned recently my mother always makes my favourite foods for my birthday including Shrikhand, a decadent Indian sweet. Today on mom’s day it’s her turn to enjoy her favourites.

Nothing is more favourite for my mother than Classic Masala Chai. She loves it so much she’ll often have a steamy sweet cup of Chai in lieu of dessert or sometimes as a soother right before her bedtime ritual.

Since it’s her favourite, my Mother’s Day Brunch will include Ginger Mint Masala Chai paired with Curried Cheddar Biscuits and Sweet Chai Spiced Cranberry Scones. Happy Mother’s Day!

Banana Almond Turmeric Shake - packed with almonds this shake aids in improving mental sharpness.

As we’re into February I’m reminded to go back to the beginning of 2011 and recollect those annual promises (a.k.a resolutions) which we all so often make.

Usually by now these things are long forgotten. This year, I kept clear of those weighty yearly expectations but am rather refreshing my thoughts month-to-month and attempting to live and act in the present.

Not a simple task at hand! The mind is a wanderer and likes to preoccupy us with thoughts that are sometimes irrelevant in the moment.

Garam Masala Beetroot & Watermelon Cooler

Lovely organic beets from The Fresh Veggies organic farm in Brampton, Ontario.

With all the AMAZING hot weather we’ve been having this summer I’m lovin’ the various ways to stay hydrated!

Remember in a previous post I told you I’m experimenting with raw foods? So out came my juicer and it’s getting a good workout!

The juicer is getting a good workout!

Beetroots are a powerful antioxidant and contain many nutrients and vitamins including vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid, calcium and iron.

I had an overripe watermelon that wasn’t good for eating so it was perfect for this Garam Masala Beetroot & Watermelon Cooler.

Overripe watermelon!

And in goes some organic blueberries!

A handful of blueberries!

A squeeze of lime juice and a sprinkle of Arvinda’s Garam Masala! Done. Delicious.

This beetroot-watermelon cooler is great for hydration. Double your batch and enjoy this cooler for a couple of days.

Cool and refreshing!
